Care to Learn has touched the lives of over 11,000 children. For thousands of Christian County kids, education is an afterthought to survival. When basic needs go unmet, kids struggle to focus on studies. Worn out poorly fitting clothes affect a kid's sense of belonging. Being made fun of leads to absenteeism and drop out. Poverty can alienate kids, making school a scary and lonely place. These kids want to be accepted. Care to Learn's funds help schools meet the immediate needs of kids.
The Children's Smile Center began as a community-led, grassroots effort. The Smile Center provides a high-quality, non-profit dental facility serving low-income and pregnant mothers in Christian and surrounding counties in Missouri.
Dogwood Ranch was created by family, for family with the belief that everyone deserves the chance to live the life for which they were created. The mission is simple: to provide support for survivors of trauma as they journey towards wholeness. This includes creating a new heritage for foster children and youth who have been abused and neglected, by providing them with safe and healthy forever families. The organization is committed to offering a place of belonging for foster teens through individualized transitional living services. Additionally, the organization offers specialized support through the equine assisted counseling program, which focuses on bringing restoration to foster youth and other at-risk populations, including our honored military veterans and their families. Through the operation of Dogwood Ranch, it allows those that are served, a new way to experience life, family and true redemption. Everyone deserves a chance to find their way home.
Least of These, Inc. is the only full service food pantry serving Christian County, one of the fastest growing counties in the state of Missouri. The growth in the number of people living in poverty has far outpaced the population growth, with over 10,000 people in Christian County who now live in poverty. Monthly nearly 1,200 families, with over 3,100 family members, visit Least Of These, Inc. for assistance because they are living in poverty. They must choose to either pay for food or pay their rent or utilities.
